Welcome Kit

Be on the lookout for your Account Welcome Kit. The Account Welcome Kit contains important fee and product disclosures and agreements. Please read through everything carefully and contact us if you have any questions. We also have the Service Agreement for Personal Accounts and the Personal Schedule of Fees online for your convenience.

  • If you applied to open your account by phone, you will receive a welcome kit in seven to 14 days.
  • If you applied for your account in a Royal Bank of Canada branch, you should have received your welcome kit during your appointment.

Account setup

Account number
Your checking account number will be sent to you via secure email within a few days of your account opening. Your account number along with RBC Bank’s institution/transit number (063216608) is needed when you set up automated payments or Wire Transfers. You should also confirm that the account number sent to you in the secure email matches the number printed on the bottom of your checks when you receive them. 

Client Information Number (CIF)
Your CIF is sent to you in the same secure email with your checking account number. You should keep your CIF in a secure place and should not share it. You will need your CIF to access Automated Telephone Banking. 

Any time you need assistance managing your U.S. RBC Bank accounts, simply call 1-800 ROYAL 5-3 (1-800-769-2553). You’ll enjoy 24/7 access to our Automated Telephone Banking. Access your account information, and transfer funds and more, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Just sign in to RBC Bank Online Banking & Bill Pay and click on “Customer Service,” then choose “My Profile & Preferences.” From there, click on “Telephone Banking Preferences” to create a secure Telephone Banking PIN and authentication word.

Managing your money with Online Banking & Bill Pay

RBC Bank makes managing your money between Canada and the U.S. seamless and hassle-free. Enjoy a single sign-in feature to manage your RBC Bank (U.S.) and RBC Royal BankTM of Canada accounts in one secure Online Banking session. You can also make instant, Cross-Border Funds Transfers, pay bills, and much more! Once you’ve enrolled in  Online Banking & Bill Pay, you’ll want to link your U.S. and Canadian accounts. And don’t forget to sign up for eStatements.

Linking Your U.S. and Canadian Accounts

It's easy to link your U.S. and Canadian accounts to automatically convert and instantly1 transfer funds.

  1. Sign in to RBC Bank Online Banking.
  2. Click on the Customer Service tab.
  3. Choose the My Profile and Preferences link.
  4. Click on Link your RBC Royal Bank and RBC U.S. Banking Accounts.


Choosing eStatements is a smart, safe, and an environmentally friendly way to receive and manage your monthly account information.

Enrolling is easy.

  1. Sign in to RBC Bank Online Banking. Doing so will take you to the Account Summary screen.
  2. Click on Customer Service, then My Profile & Preferences.
  3. This will take you to a screen called Bank Statement Preferences showing your eligible U.S. RBC Bank accounts with selection options for statements.
  4. Select eStatements for any or all of your eligible RBC Bank deposit accounts, credit cards, loans or lines of credit. Once you make your selections, a Terms & Conditions box will appear.
  5. Click View/Print Terms & Conditions and review the document thoroughly.
  6. Select checkboxes #2 and #3 to verify that you can view, print, and save eStatements using your computer and that you have read and agree to the Terms & Conditions.
  7. Click Submit.

If you ordered checks, you will receive them within 7 to 14 days after you made the initial deposit into your account.

Visa Debit card
You’ll also receive your RBC Bank Visa‡ Debit card within seven to 14 days after you opened your account. When you receive your debit card, don’t forget to activate it! You can activate your debit card easily by calling 1-866-601-7794 and following the prompts. When you are done, sign the back of your card and start using it.

You can use your RBC Bank Visa Debit card at thousands of ATMs in our network to access funds from your checking or savings account – with no fees! Or, use your card to get cash at any other Visa, NYCE, or PLUS ATM. We won’t charge you for these withdrawals and, upon request, we will refund you for fees other banks may charge (up to two for Royal Embassy Checking and Direct Checking clients and up to four for Preferred Checking and Premium Checking clients).

Maximum transaction limits apply and are subject to change. Availability of the money will depend on the time it is sent from RBC Royal Bank or RBC Bank. Transaction may not appear on your RBC Bank (U.S.) account transaction history until the following day but will reflect the date of the transfer.
